High Places News and Notes – Holiday Edition
As most of us are already aware, Martin is back! What a wonderful holiday present to have our founding pastor back from Sabbatical, ready to feed his “laid back dog.” If you have no idea what that means, then you’ve missed a few messages. ;)
Holidays are busy, so be sure to mark your calendars now for each of these important church related items:
Sunday, November 27th -- TIRED OF TURKEY – Join us for an abbreviated Thanksgiving service starting at 10:30 AM, followed by lunch and fellowship. We will need each family to bring some potluck, enough to feed yourselves and maybe two other people. The last couple of years we’ve run pretty tight on food, especially the main course items. This year, let’s see a table overflowing with everything but turkey!
Sunday’s December 4th and December 11th – Our regular church schedule is in effect, but this is no “regular” time of year. Be sure to attend for Christmas singing and words that inspire us to remember the Reason for the season.
Be aware however of the parking situation on the 4th as the Holiday Market will be in effect. Parking along the side and back of the building will be available.
Also, for our music lovers and hosting team – The Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra will be in concert at the Grove Theater on December 4th at 5:00 PM.
Friday December 9th – The Word Players are hosting a fundraiser event at the Grove Theater for CrossRoads Ministry. Many of us remember the moving Christmas play they did with the “bag lady” in the park. They will be repeating this performance, as well as adding in two shorter one act Christmas plays. This will be fun for the entire family, donations only for the event toward a wonderful community cause.
Saturday, December 10th – Baby Shower for Katie Fischer, hosted by the church ladies at Jennifer White’s house from 2:30-5:30 PM.
Also Saturday, December 10th – Christmas parade... to float or not to float, that is the question. Either way, High Places will have an event during the parade, even it is simply being on the receiving end of all that candy for once!
Sunday’s December 18th – Will be our annual Christmas program… as usual you’ll never know what to expect. Mostly because we don’t know either! Somehow, through God’s grace, our Christmas program turns into something beautiful every year. We know it has nothing to do with us either because we feel so unprepared and inadequate and messy. But God is good and He’s proven it to us time and time again. Don’t miss this wonderful Christmas experience!
Sunday, December 25th – No formal High Places gathering. Celebrate the gift of Jesus with your family!
Sunday, January 1st – An abbreviated service followed by communion. Let’s prepare our hearts for all the things that God wants to do in 2012.
Mark your Adult Retreat calendars now – February 24-26 @ Cumberland Falls State Park. Plan for a weekend of fun and sharing as we focus on the topic of “Potpourri.”
As we move into 2012 keep on the lookout for our annual “State of the Church” report on January 8th as well as two extremely important Leadership meetings -- all of which will help gain perspective on what God has in store for us in the coming year. We will be rising to meet challenges and opportunities related to our facility, our community, and our future.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
"Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever."
